The Diplomatic Institute held an international conference on "Combating Anti-Semitism and Preservation of Jewish Heritage" within the framework of the "Strategic Cooperation between Bulgaria and Norway in Support of Bulgaria's International Commitment to Combat Anti-Semitism and Preservation of Jewish Heritage" project, implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Diplomatic Institute and the State Cultural Institute and funded by the Fund for Bilateral Relations of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
Mrs. Tanya Mihailova, Director of the Diplomatic Institute, Mrs. Velislava Petrova, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Maria Gaidarova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, H.E. Mr. Yoram Elron, Ambassador of the State of Israel in Bulgaria, and Mrs. Yulia Dandolova, Executive Director of the Organization of Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom".
The conference was held in three thematic panels: "Combating anti-Semitism and hate speech", "Protection of Jewish cultural heritage" and "Educational initiatives to commemorate the Holocaust". Panelists in the conference were experts from the governmental, non-governmental and academic sectors from Bulgaria, Austria, Israel, Italy, Romania and France.
Within the framework of the conference, good practices were discussed for countering modern anti-Semitism and hate speech, as well as for the preservation of Jewish tangible and intangible cultural heritage and preservation of the historical memory of the Holocaust among the young generation in the context of the preparation of the first National Action Plan for fight against anti-Semitism in Bulgaria.
