Burgas Municipality, partner under the Pre-defined Project №3 ‘Implementing innovative measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change in municipalities in Bulgaria’, financed under the ‘Environment protection and climate change’ of FM EEA 2014-2021, with a Project promoter the National Trust Ecofund (NTEF), opened a new urban park, located in the area between ‘Oborishte’ Street and ‘General Gurko’ Street.
The park is built with natural materials to recreate the natural environment as much as possible. The site combines a number of climate adaptation and mitigation measures. Examples of this are the landscaping of adjacent areas, the construction of a water cascade that will help improve biodiversity and provide sufficient moisture for plants. On the other hand, the construction of " green wall" infrastructure is used to isolate buildings, which will reduce heat loss and improve air quality. The constructed photovoltaic plant is expected to reduce the dependence on conventional energy sources as well as will lead to reduction of the greenhouse gases.
Another adaptation and mitigation measure against climate changes is the installation of energy-saving lightning, which will help reducing the energy consumption and the greenhouse gas emissions, as well as will improve the visibility and the safety. In addition, the integration of renewable energy sources in the charging e-cars infrastructure will lead to emissions reduction in the transportation sector.
In the park could be found also the so-called “smart” benches, which will be used for phone charging station. The opportunity for video monitoring through public link to the car park spots and the charging spots, turn the park in an ideal place for relax, combining the advantages of the technologies, together with the benefits of the nature.
