The urban area between Oborishte Street and the'Gurko' parking lot won in the “Building of the year” competition, which was organised by the Ministry of Regional Development and public Works” in the category “Projects related to the development of cities".
The refinement of the park area was jointly made with Municiaplity of Burgas, using finances from two European projects, one of which is the Project №3 "Implementing innovative measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change in municipalities in Bulgaria", financed under the ‘Environment protection and Climate change’ Programme of the EEA FM 2014-2021. Only natural materials were used in the construction of the new urban space, and the materials from the land clean-up were reused for the purposes of the newly created park, following a sustainable approach to the environment.
The park, also called Healing Island, is a measure in the direction of adapting the urban environment to climate changes. This is why the project is important for reducing the heat island effect and supporting biodiversity.
In addition, the park also has a social aspect, exemplified by the presence of movement and physiotherapy corners, sound and water therapy corners, a park podium as well as tactile benches that people of all ages can enjoy this place in their free time.
