On 21st June 2022, at the Bulgarian News Agency, has been publicly presented the project “Improving the capacity for corporation between the institutions in working with unaccompanied minors”, financed by the Home Affairs Programme of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021. The project is implemented by European Institute Foundation.
The main objective of the project is to increase the capacity and to improve the mechanism of interaction between national institutions and non-governmental and international organizations working in the field of asylum and migration (with a focus on working with unaccompanied minors).
During the event was reported that 3,712 unaccompanied refugee children were registered last year in the centers of the State Agency for Refugees. Basically they come from Afghanistan and Syria. Since the beginning of the year alone, they are now 1382. More than 90 percent of them are boys.
It is necessary to draw the attention of institutions and the public to the particularly vulnerable situation of unaccompanied refugee children. To this end, existing problems and difficulties must be identified and recommendations made to the competent institutions. Within the project, it is envisages to develop a profile of unaccompanied minors in Bulgaria. A web-based innovative tool - "referral pathway" in working with unaccompanied minors will be developed.
