The National Institute of Forensic Science and the National Criminal Investigation Service of Norway (Kripos) have reported fruitful cooperation in the field of forensic science. In the framework of a joint project funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, experts from Bulgaria and Norway shared valuable experience and knowledge, creating opportunities for future cooperation and achieving high quality and capacity in forensic research. Five forensic laboratories in the Regional Directorates in Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna, Pleven and in the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs now have state-of-the-art equipment for carrying out specialised investigations and analyses. The new equipment enables the examination of narcotic substances, digital material evidence, document authenticity analysis and precise fingerprinting. Specialised training for forensic experts has been provided, and Norway's experience in the field has been presented.
The implementation of modern methods, the exchange of knowledge and experience between the experts of the two countries in the field of law enforcement have made a significant contribution to the fight against organised crime.
