On 6 and 7 of 2023 City of Sofia of National Institute of Justice organizes an in-person training on: "The alienation of the child in the hypotheses of domestic violence and parental conflicts". The topic will be presented by a multidisciplinary team of specialists with established expertise in the field, including Ms. Shazia Choudhry, Professor of Law at the University of Oxford and co-author of a range of publications on these issues.

Participants will learn about understanding parental alienation in legal, psychological and psychiatric contexts according to ICD11 and DSM5. Special attention will be paid to the current debate internationally on the use of the concept and the dangers of neglecting the best interests of the child. Emphasis will be placed on the applicability of Article 59(6) CC in the context of the right to family life. Sample assignments to forensic psychological and psychiatric evaluations will be reviewed to fully explore family relationships and the parent-child relationship.

The training is aimed at judges, prosecutors, investigators and other representatives of the professional community, as well as social workers from child protection departments.

The organizer is the team of the project "Prevention and Counteraction of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence", implemented with the support of the NFM 2014-2021.
