The new prison in Samoranovo and the positives of the construction of the modern facilities for the region were discussed at a working meeting between the Director General of the General Directorate Execution of Penalties (GDEP), Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Yordanov and the newly elected Mayor of Dupnitsa Municipality Parvan Dangov.
The most ambitious project of the Ministry of Justice and the GDEP, funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, includes the construction of a pilot prison for 400 prisoners, a training centre for 100 trainees, a transitional ward, a social centre, workshops, a library and a school.
At the meeting in Dupnitsa Municipality were discussed the opportunities for creating new jobs and strengthening cooperation with local employers, as well as the problems with water supply in the region, the need to build a water treatment plant and other infrastructure issues.
A commitment to improve interaction and to assist with identified obstacles was made by both sides. The meeting was also attended by the head of the prison in Bobov Dol, Chief Commissioner Krum Petrov and the Deputy Mayor of Dupnitsa Boyko Hristov.
Prior to the meeting with the Mayor, Chief Commissioner Yordanov inspected the construction works of the penitentiary complex. On site, the contractor gave assurances that despite the weather conditions, work on all of the 10 new buildings under construction would not stop and the project would be completed on time — by the end of April next year.
