Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov, Head of the Programme Operator of the NFM Justice Programme and Deputy Minister Maria Pavlova held today a working meeting with the Governor of Kyustendil Eng. Alexander Pandruski and the Mayor of Dupnitsa Eng. Metodi Chimev. The occasion was the construction of the Training Centre for the needs of the General Directorate Execution of Penalties (GDEP) and its pilot prison, which are to be implemented in the village of Samoranovo in Dupnitsa under a project funded by the NFM.
The meeting was also attended by GDEP Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Yordanov, Commissioner Nadia Radkovska - Head of the Division “International Cooperation and Staff Training” at GDEP and the Executive Director of Bulgarian W&S Holding Irena Georgieva.
In addition to the undeniable benefits of the construction of the new modern facilities for the region, the conversation also focused on the concerns of the population that the construction of the prison will aggravate the problem of lack of drinking water. Eng. Pandurski and Eng. Chimev sought the Minister of Justice’s assistance for a follow-up conversation with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works to seek a solution to improve the village’s water infrastructure.
The GDEP expressed its readiness for further meetings with the local community and, if necessary, new awareness campaigns on future opportunities for cooperation with local employers and employment stakeholders, as well as the implementation of local manufacturing projects.
