The Ministry of Justice and New Bulgarian University are organizing a conference on “Human Rights Education: between Theory and Practice”. It will be held on 28 and 29 April 2022, at 9:00 am, in the Aula of New Bulgarian University, 21 Montevideo Str., Sofia.
An analysis of the existing curricula and the effectiveness of the teaching of Human Rights Protection in Bulgarian universities will be presented during the forum. Guidelines for the introduction of “Protection of Human Rights” in the compulsory curriculum of the Law degree will be discussed.
The conference also aims to contribute to the professional debate on legal education reform.
The event will be opened by the Minister of Justice Nadejda Iordanova, the Head of the Department of Law at the NBU Prof. Veselin Vuchkov, PhD, and Prof. Gentian Zyberi, PhD, from the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights.
It is held within the framework of the project “Strengthening the National Capacity for the Implementation of the ECHR Judgments”, funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014 - 2021 and implemented by the Directorate “Legal Representation of the Republic of Bulgaria before the European Court of Human Rights” with partners - the Department of Law of New Bulgarian University and the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights at the University of Oslo.
Representatives of the law faculties in Bulgaria, the National Institute of Justice, the Krustyu Tsonchev Training Centre for Lawyers, magistrates, lawyers, NGOs, students, authoritative foreign experts and university professors in the field of human rights are invited to participate.
