Colleagues from Croatia visited Plovdiv and Pazardzhik, where they got to know on the spot the work with convicted persons and the interaction between prisons and probation services. The visit is in fulfilment of sub-activity 4.1 "Review of European practices in the inter-institutional management of offenders and the role of Probation Boards" under IAJ 3 "Strengthening the implementation of measures alternative to imprisonment", the Justice Programme of the 2014 – 2021 Norwegian Financial Mechanism. Ms Mateja Srashen and Ms Vesna Zelic Ferencic are experts recommended by the Confederation of European Probation (CEP)
In Pazardzhik, they conducted interviews and a focus group with members of the city's probation board. Emphasis in the visit was placed on the training of employees, joint trainings and cooperation with NGOs.
The Croatian experts are expected to prepare two reports with recommendations that relate to:
- the good examples of European practices of interagency cooperation for effective management of offenders in the community; and
- European practices regarding probation boards and the functioning of equal multi-institutional commissions.
