The Ministry of Justice has been congratulated for the remarkable progress made over the last two years in the implementation of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (NFM) projects. This took place at a meeting of the Justice Programme Cooperation Committee in Stavanger, Norway, hosted by the Norwegian Correctional Service, the Norwegian Judicial Administration, the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, the Council of Europe and the Financial Mechanism Office.
The aim of the meeting was to follow up on the progress of all 20 projects of the Justice Programme of the NFM 2014-2021, with a total value of over EUR 39 million, as well as to discuss the possibilities for future cooperation.
The new prison in the village of Samoranovo is being built with funds from the NFM in Bulgaria, the construction of which has been accelerated and is expected to be opened within the foreseen deadline of April 2024.
The Head of the Programme Operator of the Justice Programme of the NFM — Dr. Borislav Ganchev pointed out that the Bulgarian government and society highly appreciates not only the financial assistance provided by the Norwegian side, but also the opportunity for exchange of experience and good practices.
The hosts noted that, in view of the implementation of the projects, Bulgaria is again becoming a reliable partner for future programming periods.
