Working meeting with representatives of the legislative and local authorities on the GDEP project for a training center and pilot prison in Samoranovo.
A working meeting on the project “Increasing the capacity of staff, building a pilot prison linked to a training centre and improving the rehabilitation of prisoners” under the Justice Programme of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism (NFM) 2014-2021 was held at the General Directorate Execution of Penalties (GDEP) on the initiative of MP Snezhanka Traianska. The meeting was also attended by the Mayor of the village of Samoranovo in the Municipality of Dupnitsa, Rayko Tsvetkov. It is in the land of Samoranovo that the site designated for the construction of a training center for the needs of the GDEP and its pilot prison is located.
On behalf of the Ministry of Justice, the workshop was attended by Desislava Gaydarova - Secretary General of the Ministry and Head of the Programme Operator and Veneta Stoilova - Head of the Division “International Programmes and Projects”, Head of the Programme Area “Correctional Services and Pre-Trial Detention”. GDEP was represented by Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Yordanov, who is also the Project Manager, Nadya Radkovska - Indicators and Performance Coordinator, and construction experts from the project management team. The representatives of the legislative and local authorities were presented the project for the construction of the new pilot prison, which will also serve as a base for practical initial and follow-up training and implementation of activities by different categories of personnel. The parameters of the construction of the prison and its training centre were discussed. Construction experts from the project team provided Mrs. Trayanska and Mr. Tsvetkov with paper and electronic documents pertaining to the construction of W&S facilities on the prison grounds.
A commitment was made by the Mayor of the village of Samoranovo to organize a meeting with the local community, where experts from the project management team would brief them on site in detail about the new prison project and the benefits of the construction of new modern facilities for the region.
The meeting ended in a spirit of mutual understanding and supportive cooperation for the implementation of one of the most important and large-scale projects funded under the Justice Programme of the NFM 2014-2021.
