On December 19th, 2023, the International Youth Center - Burgas was opened. The event was attended by the Mayor, Dimitar Nikolov, representatives of the project partner from Iceland and the Programme Operator from the Ministry of Education and Science. Guests at the ceremony were officials from local and state institutions from Vratsa, Pernik, Dobrich, Stara Zagora, Montana and Gabrovo, where there are youth centers built or under construction under the "Local development, poverty reduction and enhanced inclusion of vulnerable groups" Programme.
The International Youth Center is situated in Burgas’ largest residential area, “Meden Rudnik”. Its location is convenient and easily accessible both by public and private transport. The built-up area of 1,153 sq. m. consists of a parking lot, multifunctional hall with capacity of up to 180 people, spaces for open conferences, exhibitions, seminars, and meetings, as well as recreation areas and areas for informal cultural and educational activities. On the ground floor there is a cafeteria, and the second floor includes a 35-bed facility for guest speakers and participants in national and international events. The building meets all standards of the Council of Europe for accessible environment for people from vulnerable groups.
The implementation of this important project for the youth sector in Burgas enables young people to establish partnerships with professionals. It also provides opportunities for informal education in the field of democratic values, human rights, youth inclusion, and social rights of vulnerable communities – all of which are essential for the Bulgarian National Youth Strategy and the Council of Europe’s Quality Label for Youth Centers.
