On October 14, 2022, an opening press conference was held on the project "Together today, together tomorrow - local communities in support of improved early childhood education and care". Partners in the project are the Municipality of Burgas, the Directorate of Education and Youth in Reykjavík, Iceland and the National Network for Health Mediators - Sofia.
The project proposal focuses on providing support to children from vulnerable groups, including Roma communities in early childhood and their families. Emphasis is placed on improving access to health care, developing parenting skills, increasing educational responsibility and readiness to include children in the education system. The project also recognizes the responsibility of reducing and transmitting intergenerational poverty. Through the implementation of the activities under this project, respect for human dignity, equality, respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities, will be promoted. The project will contribute to the observance of the principle of non-segregation and will actively contribute to desegregation. In addition, emphasis is placed on activities to promote the participation of families, municipalities, kindergartens and other local stakeholders in order to create mutual trust and a positive effect on target groups. The desire to overcome the specific problems that are an obstacle to the development of the Roma minority will be strengthened. The implementation of the project, which will take place within 24 months, will lead to the provision of support to children from vulnerable groups, including Roma communities in early childhood and their families to improve access to health care, the formation of parenting skills, improving the family environment, increasing the school readiness of children for inclusion in the educational system and reducing intergenerational poverty.
