On July 21, 2022, the municipality of Lom held an opening press conference on the project "Complex model for early childhood education and care in Lom municipality".
The overall goal of the project is to provide support to children at an early age and families from vulnerable groups of Roma communities in Lom municipality to improve access to health care, form parenting skills, improve the family environment, increase children's school readiness, and limiting the transmission of poverty between generations.
Project activities will involve 350 children from 0 to 6 years old in isolated and poor urban areas in Lom Municipality, with a concentration of problems creating a risk of poverty, social exclusion and marginalization, as well as 200 parents, guardians or caregivers. For this purpose, 3 functionally connected hubs will be created, one of which will be mobile, with an emphasis on the "Humata" district, to provide functionally connected services for education and care at an early age for the children of the target groups and their parents. Two of the hubs will be housed in the building of the project partner Roma-Lom Foundation, which will be thoroughly renovated and equipped. The three hubs will provide support for early childhood children and access to education. They will assist in the transition from a family to a formal educational environment. Activities that will improve access to social and health services for children from vulnerable groups are also planned.
