On August 6, 2020, the Municipality of Kostinbrod held an opening event to inform the media and the local residents about the goals and objectives of the two-year project "Recovery Center for Children with Oncohematological Diseases". The project - with a budget totaling BGN 1,223,983 - is implemented under the programme "Local Development, Poverty Reduction and Enhanced Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups" with the support of the EEA grants.
The Mayor of Kostinbrod Municipality - Mr. Trayko Mladenov, expressed his gratitude to the donor-states for the provided financial support and to the Programme Operator’ team for their assistance during the design and the preparation of the project. The Deputy Mayor - Mr. Alexander Nenov presented the Association "Children with oncohematological diseases", which was selected by the municipality through the relevant public procurement for contractor of the main activities of the project.
Ms. Lora Emanuilova - the Project manager, presented the main goals and objectives of the project, and Ms. Margarita Borisova - President of the Association "Children with Oncohematological Diseases", described the services that the center will provide to children and young people with oncohematological problems and to their families.
The Head of the Programme Operator - Ms. Tzvetana Guerdjikova, Director of the ‘External European Programmes’ Directorate at the Ministry of Education and Science, underlined that the establishment of the above Center - which is the first of its kind in the Balkans - is of great importance not only for the municipality of Kostinbrod, but also for the whole country. She also expressed the expectations of the Programme Operator that the successful implementation of this project would "prepare the ground" for the introduction of the relevant state-delegated social service, which will not only be the most convincing evidence of the benefits of this project, but will definitely become a guarantee for its long-term sustainability.
